The most surreal things have happened. As I discussed this morning, it seems that our mileage reimbursement from my spouse’s conference may actually help us to stay within our budget this month. Who knew? Depending on if we get the reimbursement this week or not – that remains to be seen, but in any case the vacation is saving the budget. And another fortuitous thing happened related to income this month, I’ve been negotiating selling some advertisements on the blog and I should be getting several hundred dollars in the next few days for some long term ad contracts. There are still some details to be worked out but things are looking very positive. That couldn’t have happened at a better time either. I’ll have to put some of it away in our savings account to pay taxes but it still should leave some to cover any budget shortfalls – and after the reimbursement goes through, the entire ad revenue (minus taxes) and whatever is left of the reimbursement not needed to protect the emergency fund will go directly to paying down the credit card debt. I may be able to take a big bite out of debt in November, with these new developments and the extra paycheck working together. Maybe even $1000 just to the credit card depending on how all the details shake out. We’ll see. There are still so many variables to work out and I need to see what happens but things are looking a whole lot more positive.
On to the current debt picture:
- Credit Card: $4,759.11 (made $200 payment this week)
- Student loan: $11,958.34 (made minimum payment of $144.50 this week)
- Spouse student loan: $12,155.93 (made minimum payment of $237.59 this week)
- Car loan: $3782.67
Debt at start of blog (6/19/07) : $36,451.71
Current total as of 10/23/07: $32,656.05
Principal paid to date $3,795.66
Total % of debt paid off from NCN Network Chart: 10.41% (last week 9.23%)
So more changes in a positive direction! My student loan debt is under $12,000… yay! My spouse’s is close too but I don’t think that will happen for two more months. It’ll be close next month though. My % of debt paid off broke the double digit level too .
I have $23.20 in survey profits I have received and deposited in my checking account that I need to snowflake, I will probably be doing that at the end of the week. I am waiting to see if any more arrives first, I still have $21 pending. I am really looking forward to sorting out the ad revenue exactly and snowflaking that, but that will wait until November. How cool if I could get the credit card under $4000 next month… so so cool. I’m really excited about attacking the debt with serious intensity.
So I’m waiting on pins and needles to see if any money sorts out by Friday so I don’t need to touch the emergency fund. I may have to take a few hundred dollars out of the emergency fund if it doesn’t, but it should be very very short term. What a change from last week. Hopefully things just keep trending up and up….
