I’ve Paid For This Twice Already…

From financial imprisonment to financial independence, one snowflake at a time. This is one family’s story.

Craigslist funny

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

I just got an email from someone who was interested in looking at the baby girl clothes I have listed.  The name looked familiar for some reason so I looked through my past craigslist emails and I found her.  She’s already come to see the clothes and bought some then.  Heh.

So I emailed her back and let her know that — so it probably is not going to be another craigslist sale lol.

I have had so many potential sales fall through in the past week, but I do have two (maybe three) that may pan out this week.  Hopefully something comes through and also I manage to get 5 more things listed before Tuesday to meet my July craigslisting goal.  We’ll see… I’ve only thought of two things so far.

Pending e-payment… hurrah!

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

The third book buyback company just sent me an email that they issued an e-check for $21.62 to my paypal account.  Why they couldn’t do an instant transfer of funds I have no idea other than to be annoying, but, whatever.  I’ll still get the money, just not for a few days.  And then a few more days to transfer it from my paypal account to my bank account.  This payment might count for August snowflaking after all by the time I can get my proverbial hands on it.

I also deposited the checks for the other two book buybacks I still had out there, for a total of $55.54.  When that deposit changes from pending in my online bank account to cleared, I’ll snowflake that amount to  Capital One.

Snow snow everywhere…. but it is about to dry up.  Need to get on the ball about finding some more stuff to sell.  I did find one textbook I can sell for $1, but $1 barely seems worth it to package it up and send it.  So I am looking for another textbook or two the same company will buy to send all together.  Haven’t found one quite yet.

Textbook sellback and Craigslist Goals updates

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

Well, the textbook sellback is going well.  I received a check for $15.24 from one of the buyers in the mail yesterday so that one is completed.  I should receive the check for $40.30 any day now from the second buyer, I was notified by email the book was accepted and the check was issued.  And the third buyer sent me an email last night that the books were received in the warehouse that day.  That one pays via paypal so I should get that money ($21.62)  shortly as long as the books were accepted.  So within the next week I should have $77.16 total to snowflake to Capital One.  That puts me way over my July target of $100 of alternative income streams to snowflake with.  Yay!

As for Craigslist….  I need to start putting some more stuff up there.  I have found two more small things to list but I haven’t done it yet.  My goal was to list 10 new things in July and I have only listed 5, so I need to get moving on that.  And I wanted to relist 10 things and I have only relisted 6.

I had some interest in a few things last week but none of them seemed to have panned out.  But in that process I took a much more complete inventory of my baby girl clothes for sale so I think one of my relists will be a more specific ad for them.  I also have some toddler boy clothing I need to go through and maybe list some or all of.

August project:  Take the ebay plunge with the XW toddler boy shoes I have.  I’m not going to get market value for them on Craigslist or a yard sale I think, too small of an audience.  That (and re-running a ton of textbooks through the tool I have now to look at multiple sites simultaneously) is really I think the only way I have a chance of hitting the $100 mark again.  I thought some of these books would actually pay in August (but am thrilled they paid in July!).  September I have the yard sale to “bank” on.  Heh.

Oh but in positive news!

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

The stats book I sold to a textbook buyback company was accepted for the full price of $40.30. I *just* got the email. As I finished venting about spending money in the last post I got a notice I’ll get a little bit back. This is the same buyer I sold the first book to, and last time I got the check in just a few days. So soon I’ll have a little bit of cash.

And now the question….. do I snowflake it or put it in the emergency fund? I guess I decide that once the cost of fixing the car is settled. Still hoping at this point to snowflake the book money and be able to work the car repair into the budget and not spend the emergency fund money I transferred at all. I hope. I really really want all the possession-selling to be snowflaking money. It keeps my motivation level high.

The high highs and low lows of craigslisting

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a quick little nothing ad on craigslist to sell my daughter’s outgrown clothes.  Literally, all it said was “I have TONS of great condition mostly name brand 0-9 month baby girl and gender neutral clothes at yard sale prices.  Email if you want to see them.”  Well, that ad has so far been my biggest moneymaker.  I had two people come see them, and one of those people spent over $60 on clothes, and the other person spent another $8.  So it has been good for 15 seconds worth of typing.

Today I got another inquiry (yes, I still have a ton left… my daughter is very loved by family and friends in the clothes department) who wanted to know if I would sell all of them in a lot.  I said $50 for everything, and that is where it got interesting.  Or annoying.  You take your pick.

I tried several times to convince the woman to just come see the clothes and pick what she wanted, but she just kept emailing more and more specific questions about brands and sizes and ugh, it was so not worth it to me.  But it was worth it, too.  It is a sale and I can’t resist a sale.  So I got out all the clothes and went through them and took notes and sent her a basic summary of what I have.  At least I can reuse the summary to write a new craigslist ad if this sale doesn’t happen.  Heh.  Always a silver lining.

So after going through all the clothes, sending a semi-detailed list, and a few more conversations about things in general (including a picture of the preemie grandbaby she’s buying the clothes for… very cute) she claims she’ll come see everything sometime this week and she’ll let me know tomorrow when would be good for her.

I’ll believe it when it happens.  I’ve had too many sales almost happen and fall through.  But it would be nice.  Oh so nice.  I’m trying to not daydream about it too much.

And I had an inquiry about a pair of my son’s outgrown shoes so maybe that’ll pan out.  I relisted all the shoes on Sunday at a reduced price hoping to get some interest.  If not there is always ebay… must conquer the ebay phobia I have.  Must.  I’ll get right on that.

The woman who wanted the Bath and Body works stuff totally flaked on me so back to the drawing board on that stuff.  I hate when I get so so close to a sale and then for no reason I can see it just falls through.  Bah.  And I still need to find 4 more new things to list this month to meet my goal.  And I should relist a few other things that have been up a while with no action.  There’s always something.
