Back on the Craigslist bandwagon

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

I split my remaining 0-9 month girl clothes into groups by size and took some group shots, then threw three ads up on craigslist, one for each size grouping  (with a note on each that I have an ad for the other two sizes too if interested).  I still need to list the other two items I took pictures of, some shoes and some kickboxing gloves.  But at least I got the baby clothes up.  They are all fall/winter clothes so I am hoping this is a good time to list them.

I also got a lead on somewhere else to sell baby/kid clothes in the future.  I went to a consignment sale this weekend to find some clothes for my son and they handed out a flyer at the door on how to become a seller at their next sale in April.  You get to keep 90% of the profit from what you sell and you get anything that doesn’t sell back.  Sweet!  The only problem is I can’t go to the seller  registration because of a previous commitment, I’ll have to sign up the next day on the waitlist.  Maybe I’ll get lucky.  If not I’ll get the info at the April sale on when to register as a seller for the next one.  I really think I could do well selling at that sale, most of my clothes are nicer than what I saw there and in better condition and I usually mark them at lower prices than I saw.  The sellers get to shop the night before the sale so I bet stuff comparable to my clothing was already snapped up.  A good sign :) .

I’m getting a little bit excited.  Debt, I am beating you down.

Off to snowflake for the grocery transgressions yesterday and the ice cream today (I still smell like chocolate… mmm).

And having said that… never say never

Since I just sold one of my craigslist items to one of those Florida people.

They made me an offer I couldn’t refuse (over the list price plus my on the high side shipping estimate) and paid instantly through paypal.  Once I determine the actual shipping when I send it tomorrow I’ll have a little snowflake for the credit card.  The item originally was only $5 so the snowflake won’t be much more than that but every penny (or dollar) counts.

Speaking of credit cards the Citi card still hasn’t posted my charge from this weekend so I can pay it…. how slow are credit cards anyway?  Hmph.

And to make this post completely random, speaking of snowflakes I did snowflake a penance for the extraneous grocery items after all.  Feels good to see that Capital One balance go down, even a little bit.

People in Florida keep trying to buy my Craigslist stuff

Monday, August 6th, 2007

I don’t know what it is about my stuff and the state of Florida (I am in the midwest) but people from Florida keep trying to buy my stuff listed on craigslist.

A few weeks ago, I got an email inquiring about one of the pairs of shoes I have listed.  After a few emails back and forth, I discovered they were in Florida and wanted the item shipped.  Well, we went back and forth on that and after they guaranteed paying with paypal through a linked bank account, not a credit card (I am not a premier member and have no interest in becoming one until I branch out to ebay) she sent me the payment…. through a linked credit card.  I denied it because paying the fees associated with that was not part of my price and we discussed further and eventually I gave up and said thanks but no thanks.

After that experience, I decided to stick to my original plan and only sell things on craigslist locally.  And I have had two further inquiries from Floridians about things I have listed on our local craigslist (different people and cities but still Florida).  Both I politely told I only do local sales through craigslist.   I don’t want to deal with any more hassle.

Not that I am selling anything locally right now….  apparently I should be selling in Florida.  Gives me another little prod about trying out ebay though  After the yard sale I am just going to have to bite the bullet and get into the world of ebay sellers.

I did cash out one of my survey sites for $10 this weekend so the alternative income streams are not COMPLETELY drying up.  Yet.

Why am I so unmotivated about Craigslist?

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

When I started listing things in June on craigslist I got really gung-ho about it and excited and I was on a huge roll as far as listing goes.  But by mid July I was just in a slump about it, and I still am.  I took pictures of two items to list a few days ago now, and I even downloaded them off the camera, but I haven’t gotten around to listing them yet.  And I have a new ad for the baby girl clothes all worked out on paper already with a lot more specific information, and yet I still have not gotten around to posting it.

I’m just super unmotivated about the whole craigslist concept right now.  I don’t know if it is the lack of recent sales, or all the recent sales that have fallen through for one reason or another, or what.  I am *supposed* to be meeting someone tomorrow to sell them some bath and body works lotions and body spray for $10.   Hopefully that works out.  Maybe that will provide some needed motivation.

I lack follow-through.  For example, I spent about an hour last weekend going through all of the 12 month, 18 month, 2T and 3T sized clothes I used with my son, and sorted out all the things I knew I wouldn’t be using with my daughter because they scream “I’m a Boy!” on them lol.  I have two boxes of clothing now ready to be listed on craigslist and yet I can’t be bothered to write an ad.  I keep thinking I want to sort the boxes a little better and figure out what season each size corresponds to (which really would not take too long, maybe another half hour) but I don’t get around to doing it and writing a 4 sentence ad.  Ugh.

Follow-through.  Follow-through.  I will list this stuff before the weekend is over.  I will.  I will.  Maybe even today.

July Craigslisting results and looking towards August

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

I only listed 5 items this month and relisted 5 items I had previously listed.  I fell short of my 10/10 goal for July.  At least I listed something.  I had $21 in sales this month through craigslist, from a total of 3 listings.

I do have pictures of two more items taken and I am going to try and list those tonight.  May be August by the time I do that though.  I have a sale lined up for Friday for $10 and hopefully that pans out.  I hope.  :crossfingers:

My goals for August are to list 5 more things and relist the baby girl clothes with the additional details I have written up about them now for that sale that never happened.   The two things I have already taken pictures of I am counting for my August listing tally.  So I just need to come up with 3 more things….

There has got to be something here somewhere that someone would buy.  lol
