Where’s My Stimulus?

If you are like me, you’ve been asking that question for the past week, ever since you found out that the stimulus payments are coming early. And now I have your answer. My spouse sent me a link this morning from the IRS website that you enter your social security number, your filing status (single, married joint, etc) and the number of exemptions on your return, and the site tells you what your economic stimulus payment will be, and what date it is scheduled to be deposited. Or, I assume, what date the check will be mailed, I have direct deposit so I can’t verify that but I assume it works the same (the site never asked if I used direct deposit or not).

When will your economic stimulus payment arrive? Find out here!

My payment is scheduled to be deposited on Monday, May 5th. And now with complete peace of mind that I will actually have the money before then, I can schedule the furnace to be replaced next Thursday. Yippee!

Update:  Apparently a number of people are getting an error message that the IRS can’t tell them when theirs is coming yet.  This may be due to it not being scheduled for you yet.  If you get an error message, I suggest you bookmark the site and try again at the beginning of next week.  Hopefully the IRS will schedule more and more each day!

  1. Oddly, when I did it, I got the message “We are sorry, but we cannot provide the status of your Stimulus payment. Please check the Payment Schedule available on our web site. If the filing status on your 2007 tax return is Married Filing Joint, please use the FIRST Social Security Number shown on your return when you use the Payment Schedule to find your estimated payment date. The schedule will show you approximately when you can expect to receive your payment, if you qualify for it.”

I am married filing joint, so I thought I may have mis-entered some data. I went back and checked our return and everything was correct. I even tried my wife’s SSN to see if they screwed up and listed it under her, but still no dice.

Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to wait for it :)

  2. I got the same sorry message :( I know it will be next week, but I’d love to know which day. Just curious, what are you’re last two numbers, Jamie?

Bah! Hmm, well maybe it can only tell you a little bit in advance. Hmm.

    Mine is 34.

  4. I got the same message as Brandon. I think it’s broken.

  5. Ah, oh well. Mine is 74 so I’ll expect it on Friday and if it comes earlier that will be a pleasant surprise :)

    Thanks anyway!

  6. You might also note that it says you must have submitted your tax return at least 6 weeks ago “in order to qualify for the Stimulus Payment…” I assume that means you had to submit your tax return at least a month before April 15th to be in the automated system.

I have yet to receive my payment (I’m in the low 20s) but it won’t kill me to be patient.

  7. I just looked at the schedule and it said we should be getting it no later then mid-May…. That’s excellent… for some reason I had it in my head ours wasn’t coming until September.. :)

  8. I submitted my tax return the first week of March, but I still get the “sorry” message. I guess that still wasn’t early enough for them! :-P

  9. We filed on 2/6/08 and I got the same “cannot provide status of your stimulus payment” message. I wonder if the site is just overloaded with high traffic right now. I am very eager to get this check - should be $2400 since we have four kiddos. This money is going to pay off the last $2400 of our LONG time credit card debt. I have been in debt my entire adult life but didn’t get serious about paying it off until Jan ‘06. SOOOO looking forward to this rebate/stimulus/whatever!

I think if it is too far away from when you’ll get it (regardless of when you filed) you get that cannot provide status message..maybe.

  11. For those of you that got the error message..did you end up getting the direct deposit yet or not? I am getting that message too and I know I put my info in correctly.

  12. Today when I checked the stimulus payment tracker it finally had my detailed information. I can expect the deposit to hit my bank account on Friday 5/16. What a nice day that will be! I can see it now: 7:15am check bank acount for IRS deposit.
7:16am call Chase to get my exact pay off amount.
7:20am initiate FINAL payment to Chase - I won’t be chased anymore!

  13. The schedule said mine would be deposited by May 9th, still haven’t received it. And of course when I go to the IRS site, I get that error message as well.

  14. I too was supposed to receive mine on May 9th, but still have not gotten it yet(doesn’t surprise me). I tried the link on the IRS website but also got an error message. If they are not going to stick to their own payment schedule, they should just take it down and stop getting peoples hopes up!!!

  15. I have been poking around the IRS website seeing if I can figure out why people don;t get theirs when they are scheduled to - if I find anything I will post it. Argh!

  16. If you had any processing fees taken out of your refund like I did with Turbo Tax, you will get a paper check starting May 30th. :(

  17. I paid turbo tax with my credit card I got my refund feb 16, my last # 43 and still I have not received anything… :(
