I’ve Paid For This Twice Already…

From financial imprisonment to financial independence, one snowflake at a time. This is one family’s story.

It’s a Great Day For My World Domination Plans… erm… Anyway…

This week I entered 5 carnivals, and my entries were selected as editor’s picks in three of them! I’m so excited and thrilled and ticked to have this honor. :) And, on top of that, my snowflaking post in the Personal Finance March Madness Competition at Free Money Finance won its game and is moving on to the Final Four competition this weekend! It is a great week for the spread of the PaidTwice doctrine. ;) Thanks so much to all the carnival hosts as well as everyone that voted for my post in March Madness! On to the final four we go, which starts this Saturday, which is also my birthday. :)

Now, back to the Carnivals! My first editor’s pick this week was in the Carnival of Personal Finance at Million Dollar Journey which brought me up to a total of 10 editor’s picks for 2008. My post How Small a Transaction Before Plastic Seems Absurd was the editor’s pick in the Credit category.  Also joining me in the credit category was this post:

  •  Funny About MoneyCredit Cards Are Good For You.  I am tempted by the idea of rewards.  I like rewards.  I’m still and forever thinking about this issue.

The next editor’s pick came from the Carnival of Debt Reduction, hosted by Debt Reduction Formula which bumped the editor’s pick total up to 11, with my post Debt as the American Way.  This post that joined me in the editor’s picks was apropos to my current situation:

  • Frugal DadIs it Easier to Pay Down Debt or Lose Weight?  I find the paying down of debt easier to focus on.  My spouse is very successfully losing weight though, so soon I will weigh more than he does.  I probably should think about doing something about that…

And then this morning, I was an editor’s pick in the Carnival of Money Hacks hosted by Antishay Ventenne, which brought my total editor’s picks for 2008 up to 12. Awesome! Thanks so much for choosing my post about Critical Thinking and the Media among such great entries!  Although I adore my house, I wish I’d read this post before I bought it, just in case:

  • The Personal FinancierHow To Make Sure This Is Your Dream Home - 7 Practical Tips.  I did do most of these that were possible for us to do, but I really should have thought more about the maintenance costs.  We have a few expensive things we’ll need to replace, maybe before we’re out of debt.  I mostly thought about paint instead…

I also was included in the Festival of Frugality at My Dollar Plan with my post Frugal Travel Tip: Pack Your Own Snacks.  I just love this post:

And last but certainly not least, my post It’s Only Five Cents More was included in the Carnival of Money Stories at Dividend Growth Investor.  Because this is something I want to do someday, this post caught my eye:

  • Family And FinancesWe Got Rid of Our Escrow Account!  I have to get 20% of the house paid off to do this… I think we’re at about 2% right now.  Compared to what the house was valued when we bought it a year ago, at least.  Who knows what we really are at.  ;)

Maybe 50 editor’s picks in 52 weeks wasn’t such a bad goal to set after all. :) Thanks to all five carnival hosts for including my entries and I am floored that three of you independently chose my entries as editor’s picks! Yahoo!

  1. Good luck on the World Domination ;) and thanks for including my article about our escrow account!

Hopefully, the housing market will get better in the next couple of years and you’ll be able to get rid of your escrow, too :)

  2. Thanks for mentioning my post on debt-loss vs. weight-loss. It is an interesting problem for most of us. If I could ever solve it I’d be rich!

I enjoyed your article on the “American Way” as well. It’s a sad commentary that being saddled with thousands in debt has become our “way.” I don’t imagine that radio station will be around long, unless they attracted enough listeners that they could sell enough ad spots to pay off their loan (of course, then they would have to play the ads and there goes their slogan!).

  3. Crazy lady. But I’m ok with having you as our new dictator. :) Will you ban credit?

  4. Thanks for linking back to the Carnival. And congratulations on getting so many Editor’s Picks!
