Return of the Editor’s Picks! The Carnivals

In December of last year, I had this huge run of editor’s picks in the carnivals I entered. It seemed every week I had at least one, if not two or even three editor’s picks, and I was feeling pretty excited about it all. When January rolled around, I set myself a goal - to have 50 editor’s picks in 52 weeks. But I was being a little over-optimistic, because there are a lot of fantastic bloggers out there also earning their share of well-deserved editor’s picks. By the end of February, I had earned 6 editor’s picks in 2008, which is great, but off pace for the 50 in 52 goal.

Well this week I started to get back on track with 2 more editor’s picks, and I am super excited about that! Thanks to Quest for Four Pillars who hosted two carnivals this week and awarded me an editor’s nod in both of them. SO now I am at 8 editor’s picks for 2008. :) Here are the highlights from all the carnivals I entered this week (and one from a little while back) :

First, actually, is that little while back one. I entered the first ever Carnival of Cashbacks and Rewards in February with my post about Maximizing my My Points Rewards, and somehow it slipped off my radar and I didn’t see when it was actually published. Which was now about 6 weeks ago. Better late than never, right? Thanks to Amanda at Me Vs Debt for creating and hosting the carnival!

Next up is the Carnival of Personal Finance at Quest for Four Pillars. they’re a Canadian blog so went with a Canadian theme, and I was excited to be a top hoser pick with Why I Love My Prepaid Cell Phone. I don’t know what a hoser is but Mike assures me it is even better than an editor’s pick. Woo! :) Two other hoser picks that made me think a lot were:

  • Pinching Copper: Why We Rent. The stories and the pictures and the numbers are convincing. My question is - who owns the houses that people can rent for half as much as it would cost to buy? How does this work out financially for anyone? I feel a post coming on…
  • Funny About Money: Libel and Slander Insurance For Bloggers. Um… yikes. I should probably look into this, I guess… yikes.

We then travel to DebtFREE-Revolution for the Carnival of Debt Reduction. Ana loves to host this carnival, and I bet it is even sweeter now that she is all but mortgage debt free! I’ll try to keep my jealousy in check. ;) My post about The Irony of Debt was included. I wanted to share these posts:

  • Simple Mom: Sinking Funds. This is another term for budgeting for irregular expenses, what I call my carryover fund. I keep mine in my checking account though, which honestly I don’t feel is my best move ever, yet I keep doing it. Every time I think about a different method though, I feel itchy over tracking and computing and such. And now I feel another post coming on…
  • Me Vs Debt: My Dumbest Purchase Ever. A debt reduction scam! That stinks… I hate stuff like that. Bah on criminals taking advantage of college students.

Then we travel back to Quest for Four Pillars of the Carnival of Money Stories, where my post about My Dumbest Purchase - It’s a Mindset was a Trump Pick! Which again I think is even better than an editor’s pick. Maybe I should count these twice… I also enjoyed learning that I am not the only one with dumb purchases:

  • Chief Family Officer: My Dumbest Purchase - it’s a fur hat! She lives in warm and sunny California! Awww, but it is cute. And fuzzy.

The next stop is Green Panda Treehouse for the Festival of Frugality, which highlights great designs. It includes my post, Cheap is Not Always A Good Thing, and I was so excited about this post:

Finally, we travel to My Dollar Plan for the Carnival of Money Hacks, where my post How I Almost Got Suckered Into Selecting A Prize was included.  Thanks!  I also found this article thought provoking:

Thanks to all the hosts for doing a fantastic job!
