I’ve Paid For This Twice Already…

From financial imprisonment to financial independence, one snowflake at a time. This is one family’s story.

Oh Wait, There Were Other Carnivals This Week Too

With all the hoopla surrounding the showdown of the Carnival of Personal Finance I hosted this week vs Lynnae’s Festival of Frugality, I‘ve neglected to mention any of the other carnivals around the web I participated in and recognize the hosts as well as review those carnivals, so I’m going to rectify that now. But first, a quick reminder that if you haven’t voted for your favorite MVP, do so today! There’s still time for your vote to be counted!

Brip Blap hosted the Carnival of Financial Goals and he kindly helped me along my quest for 50 editors picks in 52 weeks by giving me a hearty BRIP! for my entry, The Importance of Long Term Goals. I’m up to 5 editors picks in 2008 now. :) Another BRIPworthy post I read at exactly the right time was:

  • Debt Prison: Staying Within Budget Is All About Focus. I really needed to read that this week to help myself get mentally back on track. I’ve been having a hard time with focus while impatiently waiting to get the repair bill so I can pay it off, and slacking on the tracking of snowflakes and putting them to good use. I remotivated myself last night by finally zapping the last of the Citicard. Huzzah!

I’ve mentioned the Festival of Frugality at Being Frugal a lot this week but I haven’t yet actually given a review of it here. My entry, Budgeting As A Tool To Achieve Financial Goals, was included, and I picked up lots of interesting information from this post:

  • Savvy Frugality: The Savvy Frugality Recession Survival Guide. One of the biggest setbacks my spouse and I had in the early years of our marriage was his job loss. We were totally unprepared and we only very recently finished paying off the damage caused by it (recently - about 1am last night). I have vowed to never be caught so unprepared again, and this post has lots of things to consider.

The Carnival of Debt Reduction was at first-time host Broke Grad Student (I remember my broke grad student days…) and included my post Less Debt = More Freedom. She highlighted the superbowl and at least I appeared in a quarter that the Patriots were ahead. I also enjoyed this debt reduction post:

  • A Penny Saved: One Step Forward. Since student loans are the next target on our list, I love hearing inspiring stories of people zapping down theirs. :)

The Carnival of Money Stories was at Banker Girl, another first-time carnival host. My post, The “Can We Afford The Payments” Mentality, was included and this story really caught my eye:

  • My Dollar Plan: Should I Stay Home or Go Back to Work? Madison looks at the financial aspect of the decision as well as considering some personal ones and really, it is not an easy choice to make. I’ve been there, and with much less lucrative options on the career side.

That’s it for this week! Thanks to all the hosts, especially the brand new ones, and many successful carnivals in the future!

  1. Thank you so much for mentioning my post! I’m inspired by you, too.

  2. Did you just casually slide in there that you paid off your last credit card? I know you have the car payment, but CONGRATULATIONS!!
