Of carnivals, sickness, and advertising
If you are visiting from the Carnival of Personal Finance or the Carnival of Debt Reduction, welcome! I was excited to be editors picks in both carnivals this week and invite you to check out my most recent posts by scrolling down the page or my most popular posts in the right sidebar. Feel free to leave comments or explore the site further!
My son came down with a stomach virus of some sort this weekend, and as of today, he has nicely spread it to both his sister and I. Ugh! Hopefully my spouse stays healthy because he is home from work on sick duty.
Running a blog in some ways can be like running a business. And sometimes, when you are running a business, even when you are throwing up every 15 minutes, things need to be done. BlogHerAds started running a new leaderboard (top of screen banner) today, and apparently something went haywire with it and started redirecting people to a spyware warning page. I don’t know if the ad was hacked or if this is a BlogHer problem, but as soon as I found out about it I removed the ad block altogether and notified BlogHer of what was going on. My stats say that 70 of you were subjected to that unfortunate advertisement and I hope all 70 of you come back and see that my site is not a place where you get redirected for advertising. If you ever see something that seems off on my site, please feel free to let me know. I welcome all feedback and take action as quickly as possible to rectify any abnormalities.
I will “see” everyone bright and early tomorrow, when hopefully I will have stopped throwing up every 15 minutes. ![]()

Feel better! My family are just coming away from a delightful bug my 10 month old brought home a week ago! I know what it’s like! Isn’t sharing nice?

I saw that ad - I believe it redirected to a page on technorati, but I admit it threw me off. Don’t worry, though. Today was my first visit and I’ve subscribed.

Hi and thank you for your post!
As a BlogHer co-founder with direct responsibility over advertising, I have to apologize and share that we here at BlogHer have now learned the hard way about this new form of advertising fraud. We received the required paperwork from this “company”, as we normally do with all of our advertisers, though moving forward we will take another necessary step in advance of running a campaign to ensure the legitimacy of our advertisers.
We removed this campaign as soon as we discovered the effect of the ads. Thanks for proactively addressing this issue and working with BlogHer.
