My “No Shop By Default” Day
So, I know that yesterday, Black Friday, is purposely avoided by some and dubbed “No Spend Day”. I am rather ambivalent about the whole thing, and although I don’t go running out at 4am to stand in line for deals I’m not sure I want, I also don’t purposely avoid shopping as a whole. But I like sleep much too much to do the whole Black Friday thing, anyway. So I assumed that yesterday would be a No Spend Day for me just because of my internal inertia.
But, it was not really meant to be. I decided to pay my bills for next week on Friday, so I spent some money. I am not sure if that really counts, but I definitely can’t claim I didn’t spend anything when I spent $200 on bills and snowflaked another $190 to my credit card. But I didn’t intend to shop, until I looked at the CVS circular.
CVS has a special going on until today for a few items that you get extra care bucks back equal to their purchase price, so basically, it is like getting them free. That wouldn’t be enough on its own to motivate me, except one of the items, a specific type of Colgate toothpaste, I have $1.50 off coupons for, and I also have a $2 off a $10 purchase CVS coupon. And another one of the specials was gallon freezer bags, which I actually need. So, since I had to go out to the bank to deposit a number of survey checks for my snowflaking, I decided to stop at CVS on the way and grab myself some deals. The idea of actually making money on my purchases (spending $12 initially, using $5 in coupons so I actually spend $7, and getting $12 in extra care bucks back) was very appealing.
But alas, it was not meant to be. My CVS was cleaned out of the items I came to buy. Other people had the same idea I did, and obviously were more motivated to buy than I was, or at least, they were up earlier. So I had a no shop day after all. Although I did technically shop… I just didn’t buy anything. Basically, label me an unsuccessful Black Friday participant.

That would have been a good deal. But other deals will come along.

Oh no! You soooo should have gotten rainchecks! Our CVS gave rainchecks - so much fun, it says “free after Extra Bucks” where the price should be.
They were open Thanksgiving Day, and most of the stuff for free was probably gone by the end of that day. What a bummer for you!
Don’t give up on CVS…they’re addicting.

I’m standing by my “you just can’t win with CVS” stance! Ours here always indicate “limited” or “while supplies last”, therefore, no rainchecks. I got my circular today at 6:35 a.m. - at 8:15 a.m. they were out of everything I wanted to get…hhmmm….how convenient…for them!

I do well sometimes and strike out sometimes.
