So what is a Carnival, anyway?
So what exactly is a carnival and why do I mention them every week? A carnival (or festival) is a collection of posts from that week on a particular topic, all collected in one big roundup post and published on a single blog. Peple submit their own posts to be included, and the host decides if the post meets their standards and is on topic to include it. There is more information about carnivals (and if you’re a blogger, you can even find a few to enter!) at the Blog carnival homepage. (Note: Most Carnivals can be entered through Blog Carnival.com, but the Carnival of Personal Finance is an exception to that and must be entered through the Carnival of Personal Finance Homepage.) I have hosted a few carnivals here (and a festival!) and it is a lot of work but also very fun. I tend to submit 5-8 of my posts every week to various carnivals around the web. Most of the time they even get included! So where can you find me this week?
Well of course, I’m in the Carnival of Personal Finance at Moolanomy, which is the “Wonders of the World” edition. I’m not sure my post qualifies as a wonder but My Evolution from New to Used… Car, That Is was included in the money management section. Here are a few posts I wanted to highlight:
- There But For The Grace of God: Why Paid Online Surveys Are Not Always a Good Choice. As my readers know, I am all about the online surveys for cash. But I do agree they are not for everyone. But for me, the flexibility of being able to fit them into lost cracks of time I wouldn’t be doing anything productive anyway, and the fact that for me they’ve been more lucrative than selling stuff on EBay or Craigslist has ever been, makes it worth it to me. But only certain ones. Some are definitely (to me) not worth the time. I deposited $63 earlier this month in my bank account from online survey payouts, and that’s $63 I wouldn’t have had otherwise, because it was time I would have not been doing anything.
- Finding Financial Peace: A Big Gas Pump Blunder. I have to wonder though, what octane are each of the 5 levels? Is economy the 87 octane one? It seems rather odd. But good for Jennifer noticing now that she wasn’t asking for what she meant to get.
The Carnival of Family Life is at An Island Life (oh I wish I lived in Hawaii some days) and my post No Homemade Snacks was included! There is even some financial advice included, like this one:
- My Wealth Builder: Inexpensive Fall Activities With Our Three Year Old. Since I also have a three year old, I found this post useful. I have done the leaf raking activity several times now and I think one more time is in order before the snow flies. Hopefully this coming weekend.
Finally for today, the All Women Blogging Carnival made its way to Jo Beaufoix.com and my post Leaving With Nothing was included. I still find it hard to leave a store with nothing. My M-Network buddy Lynnae also entered this week with a thoughtful post:
- Being Frugal: Oprah, Hoarding, and Self Worth. Do not fall into the trap of defining yourself by what you possess rather than what you are inside and what you do with your life. It is a trap I have tripped over many a time.
Check back on Wednesday for the rest of the Carnivals and Festivals I submitted to this week and find some favorites of your own! Thanks!

Carnivals are terrific! I look forward to reading all the great submissions to the Carnival of Personal Finance every week! (And about my article on My Big Gas Pump Blunder - the “economy” is the 87 octane (which is what I thought I was getting when I ordered “regular”!).
