Sunday Morning Link Love - Studying Edition

So, I’ve spent the weekend studying high school chemistry in preparation to take an exam to tutor it. It’s funny, because so far, every time I read something I understand it and think “Oh yeah, I knew that” but it is a LOT of information to refresh and remember. I’m only halfway through my study materials (an online resource supplemented by my college-level chemistry text) so I hope I get to the end of them before tonight and can take the tutoring exam. If I don’t pass it, well, I can retake in 90 days and I’ll have a better idea of what to study. There’s always social studies to tutor after all…

Here’s some readings from the M-Network and beyond I enjoyed earlier in the week!

  • Gather Little By Little: One Year Ago Today - Ten Things We’ve Done To Regain Financial Control. This is a great list of how glblguy turned his life around, and I use many of the same tips to help improve my own financial situation.
  • Christian PF: 6 Tips For A Debt-Free Christmas. That’s our goal, and we’ll do it! We have used many of these tips ourselves.
  • The Dough Roller: A Simple Approach To Budgeting. I can’t use a system this simple right now, because I used to use an even simpler one (one category - spend) and it stunk lol. I need complexity to save me from myself. But for those who are in better financial shape it can work wonders. Save first, then spend. :)
  • DebtFREE-Revolution: Musings on Debt. All the warnings here, there and everywhere make me scared to still be in debt. We’re getting out, I’m trying as hard as I can, but it doesn’t seem fast enough. I just hope I didn’t start too late.
  • Plonkee Money: How To Have A Fun Frugal Old Age. I just love this.
  • Blogging Away Debt: 6 Piggy Banks That Help Teach Kids Money Management Skills. I am thinking of the cow for Christmas for my son. I think they’re a great idea. And he loves cows.
  • Chief Family Officer: I Bought A Fraction of a Stock! I am totally enamoured with Berkshire Hathaway, so I found this very exciting :)
  • Cheap Healthy Good: Defending the Devil: The Semi-Cheap, Kind of Healthy Goodness of Rachael Ray. I must admit, I love 30-minute meals. I hate her talk show though. What gives? lol
  • Two Wise Acres: In Defense of Home Ownership. For us, this holds true. We actually bought our house because it would have cost more per month to rent anything close to comparable. Yes we have higher maintenance costs but overall we’re saving money vs renting in our particular market.
  • Make Love Not Debt: How Much Do You Tell Your Parents? I don’t tell my parents many details and they don’t ask. My in-laws however, they ask inappropriate questions at times, and also tell me more about their finances than I want to know.
  • The Bright Side Of Debt: Discarding Old Clothes. This is such a simple system for knowing what you never wear, I wish I thought of it! And I’ll be instituting it this winter.

And in the PaidTwice rewind, the key to our debt reduction? Budgeting. Who knew? Heh. That’s it for this week!

  1. Good luck for the exam! You’ll probably find that it’ll all come flooding back once you’re actually at the exam…hopefully ;-).
