Seven Random Things About Me Meme
So, I’ve again been tagged, this time by Kyle at Rather Be Shopping to share seven random things about myself. I’ve been pondering this for a few days because I lead a rather transparent life here on the blog and I don’t think I have a lot of interesting secrets. So excuse me if I’ve mentioned any of these before….
- I grew up in New England, and I still hope to migrate back there someday. Circumstances relating to schools and jobs led us to the midwest but my heart still lives in New England.
- Having said that, I am a HUGE New England Patriots fan. I love football. Love it. In college I was the only person I knew that had a chart on their dorm room door of the standings in the AFC East and different facts about each game played as they happened. Which leads to…
- I went to an all-women’s college as an undergraduate. Honestly, I never would have guessed I would when I was in high school. I was so not in favor of things like single-sex education. But I fell in love with the school when I visited the campus and I ended up going there, and it was probably one of the best decisions I ever made.
- My PhD is in Genetics. From a big midwestern university. I used to think about using it for something but I’m starting to doubt I ever will.
- The Bachelor is my guilty pleasure. Seriously, that is just embarrassing. Can I just say that I snark on IM with a group of friends online while I watch it? Because otherwise really there is no excuse.
- I easily get sucked into TV so I keep it off as much as possible. I can’t break my addiction completely but keeping it turned off as much as possible keeps me from adding new shows to the ones I like. As the shows I follow keep getting cancelled, I watch less and less TV. I’m down to only 3 hours a week I feel I “can’t miss” (and still I often miss at least some of it). I haven’t added a new show to my lineup in years. Kids also helped with that. lol.
- I own a lot of TV on DVD and I cannot bear to get rid of any of it. call it the offshoot of my television addiction, but I’ve read so much about decluttering and paring down and a simpler lifestyle, and yet I have a DVD cabinet filled with Friends and Gilmore Girls and Law and Order and Dead Zone and… well, some more, the list is long enough already, and I cannot bear to part with any of it, even though I have no time to watch it.
So, there you have it. Seven random bits about me. I’m supposed to tag seven more bloggers to continue the meme. Seven is a lot! Okay here goes: Being Frugal, A Penny Closer, Poorer Than You, Saving For A Home of My Own, Simply Us, Four Pillars (twice! both of you!). That looks like six but it is seven since there are two bloggers behind Four Pillars. ![]()

A comment about item number 7 - I understand the hardship you face about trying to get rid of something you’re extremely attached to.
In college I accumulated well over 300 movies and then one day I asked myself this quesiton; “How many movies have I watched more than once”. The answer was zero. I watched them once and that was it. So did I really need all these movies? No. So I got rid of them. Of course I kept a few of my favorites that I never get sick of watching (Star Wars, Shrek, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, etc.). I keep these on hand to satisfy my urgent cravings. For everything else, I use Netflix!
I apply the same type of approach with Television. My wife and I just recently downgraded to basic cable (2-13) and have never been happier! Sure we miss our discovery, history, and national geographic, but we feel that it is worth it. We watch our weekly Network line ups, but we also have a DVR for the ones we miss. And for the channels we don’t have; either borrow from friends or stream from the almighty Internet.
I think you should ask yourself, when was the last time you watched a DVD more than once? Staring at the dust collectors, I see a relaxing vacation in the Bahamas.

NE fan eh? I’m a big Bills fan but I’ll still come to your blog.
I’ll try the 7 random things thing but I think that Mr. Cheap and I should really share the 7 things since we are sharing the blog? No? Ok. I’ll see what I can do…

You and Mr. Cheap can share a post but you both should have 7 individual things

If only I could sell my DVDs for a vacation in the Bahamas (or even a significant debt eliminator).
I’m too attached to them to recoup pennies on the dollar for them yet

I have responded on my blog now. Thanks for tagging me - it was fun!
My guilty TV pleasure has been Rock of Love. Everytime I watch it I feel dumber but I can’t help myself.

yay for responding to the tag! I loved your list!
I have no idea what that show is but I can’t go find out because then I might watch it. lol
