Sunday Morning Link Love
Welcome to the second edition of Sunday Morning Link Love. I learn so much each week from reading other personal finance bloggers and I’m excited to share some of that with you all. Hopefully there is something to appeal to everyone on this list!
My favorite article this week is from David at My Two Dollars who wrote about Getting Rid of Clutter - Stopping the “But I Paid For This Already!” Syndrome. Basically my love of this post can be summed up with this quote:
Just because you paid for something does not mean it is bringing any value to your life; on the contrary, it could be causing you great distress.
I have this syndrome. I don’t know how to cure it. I have too much stuff and even when I decide to purge some I feel entitled to get something for it somehow. Ugh. Must. Purge. Stuff.
Some of my favorite articles this week from the M-Network:
Glblguy at Gather Little By Little posts his feelings on debt in Good Debt There is no Such Thing and then Pinyo at Moolanomy weighs in with his reaction in No such thing as Good Debt?
Lynnae at Being Frugal gives Back to School tips, I love the idea of “bringing out the fall clothes” as an event vs shopping for new school clothes.
Plonkee at Plonkee Money talks about her formula for determining if she needs insurance… simple and to the point.
Brian at Financial Dominance talks about the Illinois 529 plan… great information for me since I am still pondering what 529 plan to use for my kids.
And in the rest of the Personal Finance blogosphere:
Free Money Finance has Some Good Financial Calculators to help you set your Retirement Number. I’ve actually been reading and taking notes on a *lot* of FMF lately to work on figuring out my today vs tomorrow dilemmas. Expect some more discussion on that soon.
Blunt Money asks what are your Defining Debt Moments. I am still working out mine. I don’t know exactly where and how I turned a corner, but there is a moment for me I can pinpoint somewhere I am sure.
Wise Bread’s Phillip Brewer discusses Frugality: a Tactic, but also a goal and digs deep into where the urge and desire to be frugal originates and perpetuates in oneself. Gave me much food for thought.
Advanced Personal Finance discusses Adapting to Income, both up *and* down. There is a lot of discussion about lifestyle “inflation” but not a lot of talk about lifestyle “deflation”, and here it is.
Loonies and Sense wants to know How Will I know I’m off the Treadmill? How do you lose that paycheck to paycheck feeling? I don’t yet know but I hope to find out.
Brip Blap talks about savings and attitudes towards saving and earning in Find A Nickel, Pick it Up. Personally, I’d stop to pick up even a penny (and have).
Generation X Finance discusses how to Add More Tools to Your Arsenal to Help Solve Financial Problems. I am definitely guilty of trying to adapt my few tools to fit any situation, but I am learning to seek more tools to help. I love the hammer analogy… I think I do that with *real* tools.
Mighty Bargain Hunter discusses Money Making Idea: Journaling When Learning a New Skill so you can later take that information and create income from distributing it. A really great yet simple idea! Once I learn to do something worthwhile, that is.
Lazy Man and Money discusses Happiness (and Money). Maybe money isn’t the key to happiness but it makes pursuing happiness a whole lot easier.
My Money Blog asks Do You Worry About Your Parents’ Readiness for Retirement? I don’t exactly worry about it but I do think about it, and this article covers a lot of key points for me.
And in my ever growing obsession with frugal food choices:
Cheap Healthy Good brings us Cheap Healthy Beef: Part 1 and Part 2. My spouse is going to be so glad I read and bookmarked these!
And The Simple Dollar has Healthy Inexpensive and Easy breakfasts… mmm…. :mouthwaters: Must start baking ahead.
Wow that’s a lot of link love. Even with only including some of my favorites there is still so much good stuff out there every week! I wonder if I’ll see any of these in carnivals tomorrow hee hee. Have a great week and look for more link love next Sunday!

Thanks for the mention! I did enjoy the post about clutter by MyTwoDollars as well. It’s like ’sunken costs’ in economics.

Thanks for the link, and hey, if you do pick up pennies you have the right idea. They are still money, after all…!

Thanks both of you for writing the thought-provoking articles in the first place
