Sunday Morning Link Love

Now that I have faithfully been using my RSS Feed Reader, I can keep track of posts that strike my fancy so much better than before, and I can easily keep up with way more blogs than I used to be able to. So in the spirit of passing on what great stuff I come across, I am going to try and do Sunday Morning Link Love each week to spread the word. This list will be on the longish side because it is actually more like two weeks of link love.

My very very favorite post this week comes from Advanced Personal Finance. I love numbers! How real returns get in the way of a good plan talks about how volatile returns and smooth returns are not the same thing. And when you average an 8% return, instead of steadily getting an 8% return, you don’t actually make as much money. So many things I never thought about!

Now from my friends in the M-Network:

Brian at Financial Dominance begins his war on caffeine. I have fought this war several times. At the moment, I am winning, but it is a short road to sliding back. My spouse doesn’t even try to fight (he says when our kids are older and he gets more sleep he’ll consider it). Good luck Brian!

Plonkee wonders if you should save for your wedding when you are single. I may have ended up in better financial shape afterwards if I had…. or I could have just spent less on the wedding. Your call. ;)

Glblguy gives 7 tips to keep your house cool. I need to start using more of these if I expect my next electric bill to be anywhere near budget….

Moolanomy gives his 10 Baby Steps to Financial Recovery. I especially like #9, Update your resume and post it online. I’d never thought of that :).

And beyond the M-Network, first, my “mom” posts. Things that struck me from my perspective as a parent:

Cathy from Chief Financial Officer was filling in for JLP at All Financial Matters last week. I loved her list of A Few Great Sites You Might Not Know About. I didn’t know about a few of them myself!

Trent at The Simple Dollar shares an article about Money lessons for preschoolers and applying them to his own child. I’ve been doing a lot of this with my 3 year old lately, and actually, have a post in the works about my son learning to make money choices at the Zoo.

More on my neverending quest to decide if I am cheap or frugal (and after these posts, I am happily leaning towards frugal and far away from cheap) :

The Digerati Life first discusses I’m Frugal, So Why Can’t I Save More Money and then goes on to look at Who Are the Cheapest People You Know? I’m not all that good at saving money (yet) but I definately have better manners than the cheap people discussed.

Ask Dong looks at Thifty vs Frugal vs Cheap. I love the ven diagrams :).

In other spheres of interest:

Saving Explained has the most amazing set of ING subaccounts I have ever seen. I thought I was complex with 4 subaccounts. Must. start. making. more.

Clever Dude writes yet another post about debt I wish I’d written about The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Clever Dude sees my brain and improves upon it, and then writes it down. Or so it feels to me a lot of the time. Oh, to grow up to be Clever Dude!

Ben at Money Smart Life tries to maximize his time because Time is Money. And now my head hurts from thinking about how much time I might be wasting….

Cheap Healthy Good writes about two of my favorite things: Broccoli and Parmesan. Not everything is about personal finance, but this really is! It is cheap! And healthy! And GOOD! I am eating this often.

And Free Money Finance discusses Rule 240. What is Rule 240? Read and find out. If you fly on an airplane at all… you should find out. It was very enlightening to me!

Whoa, that’s a lot of love! It may rival the Carnival I’m hosting tomorrow…… Remember to get those submissions in now!

  1. Paidtwice, is this practice for the carnival? It’s a big list of good posts and thank you so much for including me. Wow, I have been missing a lot this week being so busy with the M-Network, MOMA meme and other stuff :)

  2. I love my Google reader! I just put a little star on a post when I especially like it, and then all of a sudden I have a huge list of link love :)
I think the carnival may end up bigger after all though :). And indeed, this was good practice!

  3. “To grow up to be Clever Dude”

How old do you think I am! And wait, aren’t you a girl? That might be kinda tough, right? :)
Yeah, I’m glad I implanted that device on your brain. It’s given me a wealth of good articles! ;)
    Thanks for the link!

  4. Yes, I am a girl, and I am pretty positive I am at least a few years older than you. Maybe more ;).

That doesn’t mean I don’t want to grow up to be Clever Dude. Age is just a number and gender is an arbitrary factor. lol

    That brain device itches occasionally.

  5. Thanks for the link, PT! I swear, the broccoli does not disappoint. Digging the new layout, too.
