I’ve Paid For This Twice Already…

From financial imprisonment to financial independence, one snowflake at a time. This is one family’s story.

Some things seemed more enjoyable when I didn’t realize I was overindulging

I used to love eating store-bought cake frosting right out of the can. I would make a batch of cupcakes, and there would always be some frosting left over. I would put the unfinished can in the refrigerator, but over the next few hours, I would eat it, a spoonful at a time, until it was all gone. And it was soooo yummy.

My son has been on a cupcake-making kick for the past few weeks, and he likes to eat some of them unfrosted. Which means even more left over frosting. I’ve thought about eating some left over frosting out of the can, but I am more aware now how overindulgent that really is, and I haven’t really wanted to. I did eat one spoonful a few days ago and it wasn’t as yummy as I remember even. So not worth the extra calories. And there is enough extra frosting to frost a whole other batch of cupcakes if I leave it alone, which is even more economical. Bonus :). I do sniff the frosting once in a while though. Chocolate smells just so good. But a sniff is enough, no need to eat it.
I feel like I am starting to get to that point with spending frivolous money. I went to a scrapbooking crop last night, and beforehand needed to go to the store to buy more glue. Usually in the scrapbooking aisle I cannot help myself and end up leaving with 15 other things I didn’t really want or need before I got there. Yesterday, I found the glue, put it in my cart, and looked around as little as possible. I did pick up a few things, but I managed to put all but one set of alphabet stickers down. They were on a big clearance and also the same color scheme as my current project… so I found them hard to resist. I’m not perfect but I am making progress… because everything else I picked up, after looking at it and the price I didn’t even *want* to buy it. And that is a first to me.

If I can get my impulsive spending to a point where it shows discretion, maybe I am ready to face Target. But only when there is something there I actually need to buy first (which there actually is and I have been putting off because of my love for that store. Maybe today.)
