Some incomplete numbers
I still need to make my car payment, which is due Monday. I’ll probably do that Friday when I get my contracting check unless I get my contracting check in the mail tomorrow. I drop it off at the credit union so I get the receipt with my updated totals right away. I’m a fan of instant gratification like that. The principal on that will probably drop by ~$215 this month.
Everything so far:
Credit Card: $5,442.77 (down from $5,852.22 at last statement)
Student loan: $12,090.37 (down from $12,169.59)
Spouse student loan: $12,429.97 (down from $12,571.82)
Car loan: estimate about $4215 after payment (down from $4,428.67)
new total approximately $34,178.11. Will update the number page once I get my actual car payment done.
Looking at these numbers, I think some milestones will be hit soon. Next month we should drop under $4000 on the car loan, and the month after that under $12,000 on my student loan as well as under $5,000 on the credit card balance. And the month after that I think my spouse’s student loan may drop under the $12,000 mark. So by year’s end every one of these balances should cross some sort of significant milestone. Cool.
That total will go up when interest is posted to my Capital One account at the close of this billing cycle (within the next week). Hopefully that is about the last time interest will accrue on a credit card for me. I’ve got the new Citicard paid and ready for its balance transfer once the payment posts. The latest we would do that is after the statement date on that account, which is the end of August. So I might have to pay a little more interest to Capital One before this is all said and done, but hopefully we are close to being done with that. We are hopeful we will get the entire balance transfer paid off in the 12 month 0% promotional period. It’ll take a lot of scrimping and hard work and a little luck.
