Budget Management: Buying Gasoline for the cars

It is July 24th. 7 more days of the July budget. The July budget has $130 set aside for gasoline for both cars. Only $25 of that remains.

$25 should be plenty to last 7 days I think. My car doesn’t need gasoline before August rolls around at all (I hope!  I should check that out and make sure later heh), so it is only my spouse’s car. He thinks he will need to get gas Thursday or maybe Friday. With the average price hovering around $3 a gallon, and a gallon getting him we will say 25 miles, he can get about 8 gallons and have about 200 miles of “driving” in his car to last him to next Wednesday. Since he only drives to and from work in his car, and that is less than 20 miles round trip, he should only have to drive about 80-100 miles depending on which day he gets gas.

Easy!

Except the spouse is resistant to not filling up his car completely when he gets gas. So… we’ll see what he does. I have strongly advised him to only put $25 maximum into the car before August. Heh. Maybe I’ll suggest he gets gas today, $25 might be enough to fill up his tank right now at this point and we can both be happy. Except I was hoping to not spend any more money that we absolutely didn’t have to until Friday when the spouse gets paid…. Argh, money management. Where is that money tree hiding?

It is still a learning process this whole budgeting thing. Still trying to figure out how to increase the car maintenance budget…..
