Close to the edge

Until my check deposit from today clears (which should be tomorrow or at the latest, Friday morning if history is my guide) I have, according to my bank, around $105 in my checking account. I don’t like being so close to the edge. Usually when I get to this point I move some of my emergency savings fund to cover “whatever might be out there” and then after the check clears or my spouse gets paid or whatever I am waiting for, I’ll move it back. Or most of it. Depends on how much of it I’ve spent in the meantime.

But this time… I have the budget, I’ve been tracking what gets spent and making sure I mark when it clears the bank on my sheet, and I know there’s nothing unexpected still hanging around out there. I didn’t manage to drop off the car payment yet and won’t until tomorrow (it isn’t due yet, never fear), and by the time that posts to my bank account, the check I deposited today will have long been cleared by my bank. So no problem there. And I just won’t spend any money in the meantime. I don’t have anything I need to spend money on until the weekend anyway.

But still I feel uneasy about being so close to the edge. Just need to convince myself to be mellow one or two days til my ~$720 check isn’t marked “pending” on my online account any longer. Patience. Argh!

Must. Not. Move. Emergency. Savings. Must. Be. Mellow.

And if I made some huge mistake somewhere and something happens… I do have overdraft protection. lol.

Budgeting is fun. (Not.)

  1. That is something that I am soooo bad at - which is why I was so amazed with my last post that we were 5 days to payday with $200 left! rotfl - could have knocked me over with a feather!

I’m proud of you for not transferring over from savings - we fall into the trap of doing that and *saying* that we’ll transfer it back, but then not doing it.

This time, our emergency fund is for…emergencies! That will take some getting used to… :)
    Great job!

  2. Heh.

that lasted less than an afternoon. ;)
But, at least it was an emergency that changed it. But man I hate emergencies.

    Bah.
