Budget Categories

A reader left a comment asking me to post my budget categories. For the rest of 2007 I am using PearBudget to track my expenses/plan a budget, and PearBudget allows up to ten categories in each of “Regular Expenses”, “Irregular Expenses”, and “Variable Expenses”. Regular are ones that are usually the same every month, Irregular are things that don’t happen every month, and Variable are things that change throughout the month.

These are my budget categories:

Regular Expenses =
Mortgage =
cab/in/ph =
Car ins =
Life ins =
Car pymt =
Cap one =
J stud loan =
M stud loan =
0 =

Irregular Expenses =

Tkd =

Variable Expenses =
housecare =

Shipping =
car gas =
Diapers =

Snowflakes =
Savings =
Gas/elect =

Cab/in/phone is our bundled Cable, internet and phone.

Ann/kid expenses is annual things like car registration and kid stuff like swim lessons.

School is my son’s preschool.

Tkd is stuff that comes up for me for taekwondo. I am a tkd instructor by night and I also compete in tournaments every few months.

The savings category is $ to my kids’ college funds.

Oh and shipping is well, shipping. I live very far away from most of my friends and family and I tend to have expenses related to sending stuff to them once in a while.

There you have it. My list of budget categories.

How is the budget actually going? I’ll save that for another post, but it is okay. It seems like a lot of categories but I wanted to be prepared for whatever arose (even though I am not ;) ). And of course, there are things that could be cut in a pinch. And someday I will actually succeed in potty training my son. ;)
