If the post office could just get its act together…

I mailed out the stats textbook to the buyback company today. Not without a little drama at the good old post office. Ugh.

I printed the postage due label supplied by the company and affixed it to my package and headed over to the post office. The last time I did this, the post office told me I was welcome to buy insurance on the package at my cost but I could not buy delivery confirmation. They explained to me though how I could bring the insurance receipt to the post office and track the package if the retailer claimed they did not receive it. Not as convenient as my home computer of course but I was okay with it.

Well, today, the teller (and her teller neighbor) both claim that I in fact, CANNOT purchase insurance but I CAN purchase a delivery comfirmation. I explained how just two weeks ago, I did this exact same thing to the exact same address even and I was told the exact opposite. They just shrugged and said this was how it was. And basically acted like I was mistaken in what had happened before.

Um, no. I know exactly what happened before. Argh.

So, I have delivery confirmation. Hopefully the post office doesn’t actually lose the package. I want my $40.30. ;)
I did when I got home try to figure out from the maze of regulations on the USPS website which thing actually was true — is it confirmation I can purchase on a postage due media mail package or insurance or both? But I gave up after a while. My time is worth more than the time it was taking me I guess. ;) I did learn that the teller overcharged me for my delivery confirmation sticker though. :irked:

  1. The post office is often not dependable.

  2. Ah true. But I am prepared for them next time.

Domestic Mail Manual section 507 Mailer Services 10.5.2 Insurance added by sender clearly indicates that sender has the option of adding insurance to a Merchandise Return Label.

So on Monday when I mail some more books I just sold…. I will be prepared! ;)
