Shopping on a budget with company
Today is grocery day. Usually I go on Saturdays but with my parents visiting for a week and having a small party for my son yesterday, it got pushed to today.
Today is also the first shopping day with the strict on paper written down budget in place.
My parents honestly are not really adding a ton to the grocery bill, if anything. My dad heads to the nearest grocery store, which is literally almost across the street from our neighborhood, whenever he decides he needs anything. And they are big on eating out so they have been treating us basically every night to some sort of “restaurant” food. But for some reason it just feels like I’ll be spending more while they are here. I know I’ll see some things I wouldn’t normally buy that I know my parents would like and be tempted to buy them. It is not that my parents expect us to spend money on them, but I guess I want to feel like a gracious host.
We’ll see. I’m not going to beat myself up about it. I have a list and I’ll just try to stick to the budget as best I can. If I go over, it is not like I don’t every week anyway. lol
In other randomness, yesterday my mom and I hit the yard sales, and I found several huge bargains for the kids. Snowsuits for both kids for $2 each in great condition, and shoes for my son, sneakers (in his next size) and sandals (in his current size), for 50 cents each! He has extra-wide (XW) feet and his shoes are generally hugely expensive so that was a huge coup. :cheer:
